Compassion is a quality that every follower of Jesus must demonstrate. Compassion simply means “sympathy, pity, showing mercy or to give an aid to another.” Compassion moves you to take the extra effort in extending a helping hand to someone in need even when it is uncomfortable for you. Jesus is the perfect example of a compassionate person. He was so thoughtful about everyone He came across.

Mark 6:34 reads “When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.” In Matthew 15:32, after teaching the people for three days, His disciples wanted to send the people away hungry but He had compassion on them and that resulted in the miracle of feeding thousands of people with five loaves and two fishes. This was the only miracle recorded in all four gospels – Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. When you become compassionate, miracles will accompany you because you have become God’s outstretched arm of help to others.

You can show compassion today like helping other Christians and non-Christian in meeting their needs in practical ways, sponsoring poor kids in other countries to go to school etc. Most importantly, you should be compassionate about the spiritual well-being / needs of your friends, family members, neighborhood. You can exhibit compassion by praying for them to be saved and taking the extra-step in sharing the good-news of Jesus and inviting them to Church where they can fellowship with other believers and grow in their faith.

Showing compassion is not in words but in action. God will always use a compassionate heart to touch a hurting world. Show compassionate today, join our adopt your street/neighbor/friend prayer evangelism initiative.
